If you are interested in acquiring this painting or would like further information please contact me The Masai tribe lives in Kenya. They are predominantly a semi- nomadic warrior tribe whose lives revolve around herding cattle. One of their beliefs is that God entrusted His cattle to them. Cattle are the mainstay of the traditional Masai way of life, and their importance is embedded deep into the hearts and minds of these peoples.  Thus, they measure their wealth by the number of cattle they acquire. A stereotypical image most people have of the Masai warrior is that of a tall and slender man clutching a spear in one hand with his red cloth wrapped around his waist or over his shoulders. Historically man is believed to have lived in Africa long before the other continents.  In East Africa, the Masai have retained their traditional way of life. The men put a thick wall of dried thorn-tree branches around the circle of houses to prevent wild animals from coming into the village. The women do a lot of beading in their spare time. They bead necklaces, head-dresses, gourds, and dresses.  The young Masai children sometimes play a game where they place rocks on a sleeping rhinoceros. The last one to place a rock on it before it wakes up is the winner. This, of course, is a very dangerous game.  Masai Country Link to Us Privacy Photo Gallery Guestbook 30"x20” -  76x51cm Acrylic on Canvas All content and artwork copyright to Stephen Gayford and may not be reproduced without permission © 2007 - 2011
