Made with Xara Web Designer Artist Proof is a term used to designate a portion of an edition selected by the publisher which should total no more than ten percent of the total edition.   Quality is identical to the standard edition print and the Artist Proofs are the property of the Artist to use or keep at his/her discretion.   These Artist Proof's are from Stephen Gayford's private collection and are from limited editions that have now sold-out.  There are a maximum of 50 copies of each Artist Proof, but some have a low inventory remaining.  Historically, the Artist's Proof portion of a limited edition were given to the artist usually as payment for the signing of the edition, they were of a higher quality as they were the first copies to be printed from the copper printing plates. The artist was then able to sell these privately. The usual number of Artist's Proofs is 50, but in some cases it may be higher. The Artist's Proofs are signed by the artist, these copies of the limited edition print are signed and typically hand-titled “Artist Proof or “AP”. Because of their restricted number, Artist's Proofs are normally sold at a higher price and are often sold out well before the complete edition. All Artist Proof orders are supplied unframed in a tube and shipped within 5 working days.
